Changing Mindsets with an Ever-Changing Workplace. The world and the workplace have changed and yet, our minds haven’t quite caught up. This interactive session will review changes in the workplace from both a practical and legal perspective. Attendees will have an opportunity to review and discuss revised regulations that have been promulgated this past year in addition to reviewing how today’s new workplace affects current legal obligations. Attendees should leave the session with a better understanding of how to navigate through these changing times while being able to issue spot future anticipated changes.

10:30am – Session 3 w/ Dan Jolivet
Behavioral Health and Return to Work Issues Following the Pandemic.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health and substance use issues were already prominent in the workplace. A significant percentage of adults reported distress related to behavioral health issues and research suggested that was leading to a significant impact on productivity on the job.
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased those concerns, particularly as government stay-at-home orders and other mitigation efforts have disrupted daily life. Evidence of increasing rates of anxiety, depression, alcohol misuse and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) suggests that employers need to prepare to accommodate more employees with behavioral health conditions than ever before.
Disability carriers can provide employers specific services and tactics to address these challenges. Disability carriers employ licensed professionals to assist with identifying appropriate accommodation options for limitations & restrictions relates to behavioral health conditions, and to support companies as they implement re-opening plans as government orders are loosened.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will learn ways mental health and substance use conditions were impacting the workforce prior to the pandemic.
2. Participants will understand how the pandemic and associated mitigation efforts have led to increased behavioral health concerns among workers.
3. Participants will be taught to address these issues within the context of guidance from the EEOC related to ADA protections.
4. Participants will develop general and specific strategies to create ADA-compliant return to work plans for employees with limitations & restrictions related to new behavioral health conditions.
5. Participants will gain an understanding of the ways a disability carrier can help employers cope with the challenges associated with behavioral health conditions, particularly in light of the pandemic.
